How to update Spacecraft-NX (HWFLY-NX)

Notes

  • SX FW: If your SX modchip is not running Spacecraft-NX (HWFLY-NX), then please follow this guide instead to install Spacecraft-NX.
  • No card reader: Not needed. You can access your SD card contents via USB without removing it from the Switch. See this guide for instructions.
  • "HWFLY Toolbox" will not allow unflashable chips to become flashed. Unflashable ones have a BGA FPGA IC on the board. Flashable ones use a QFN FPGA.

Compatible modchips

This guide will guide you through updating the firmware for your modchip running Spacecraft-NX, by using the "HWFLY toolbox".

  • The guide works for the following modchips:
  • This guide does NOT work for the following modchips due to them being locked:
    • HWFLY Core
    • HWFLY Lite

You need

Everything you need to download. (On GitHub scroll down and find the file under Assets)

Steps

  1. Extract bootloader folder from the hekate_ctcaer_*.*.*_Nyx_*.*.*.zip to your SD card
  2. Extract the file hwfly_toolbox.bin from release_***.zip to /bootloader/payloads/ on your SD card.
  3. Plug your SD card back into your Switch and boot your Switch. You should boot into Hekate.
    • If you are not booting into Horizon instead of Hekate, then please power down your device, hold (Vol +) and power on your device in order to boot into Hekate.
  4. Back in Hekate. select Payloads, and then select hwfly_toolbox.bin.
  5. Once booted into the HWFLY Toolbox, use the volume buttons to scroll down to the SD Loader section, and use the (Power) button to select the Update option.
  6. Once done, power off your Switch by selecting the Power off option from the menu.
  7. From the release_***.zip copy firmware.bin and sdloader.enc to the root of your SD card. Do not do so earlier.
  8. Insert the micro SD in switch and power on while holding volume up (volume up) (verify: modchip green light stays on or begins pulsing)
  9. In Hekate select Payloads, and then select hwfly_toolbox.bin.
  10. Once booted into the HWFLY Toolbox, use the volume buttons to scroll down to the Firmware section, and use the (Power) button to select the Update option.
  11. Once the firmware has been updated, select Power off from the menu.
  12. You may now boot your device.
