How to flash Spacecraft-NX (HWFLY-NX)

  • Spacecraft-NX (HWFLY-NX) is an alternate opensource firmware for the SX-Core and SX-Lite.
⚠️ This guide is only for SX Core & SX Lite modchips. ⚠️
  • This will not allow unflashable chips to become flashed. Unflashable ones have a BGA FPGA IC on the board. Flashable ones use a QFN FPGA.

You need

Pre-Setup

⚠️ If you are using SX Gear, make sure to replace it with SXOS since you will need the SXOS boot menu.

  1. You will need to first boot into the SXOS boot menu.
  2. From there select options, then SXCore, and then cleanup.
  3. Confirm, and once it is done, power off your console.
  4. Now you are ready to flash your modchip.

Setup steps

  1. Plug in your USB dongle into the modchip
  2. Plug in your micro-usb cable into the dongle.
  3. Plug in the other end of the cable to your Windows PC.
  4. Extract release_xxx.zip file into a folder.
  5. Double click on the flash.bat file.
⚠️ DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB CABLE WHILE IT IS FLASHING OR YOU WILL BRICK YOUR MODCHIP!
  6. Once you get the message saying ! ! ! DONE ! ! ! you may unplug the modchip.
  7. In the spacecraft-nx folder you will have a file named backup_xxxx_xx_xx_xx_xx.bin. Make sure to make several backups of this file in case you ever end up needing/wanting to reflash the SX firmware.

How to use Spacecraft-NX / HWFLY-NX

This chip firmware will start the payload in the root of the micro SD card named payload.bin. For most Switch users this will be Hekate.
Place your payload of choice in the root of your SD card and rename it payload.bin. If you follow the CFW setup guide from here Hekate's payload will be used by default.
Turn on your Switch and you will launch into your desired payload.

Notes

  • First boot: When you boot your switch for the first time using Spacecraft-NX (HWFLY-NX), initial training can take up to 5 minutes or even closer to 30. This is normal since the modchip enters into a training session and will blink yellow. Once done it will blink magenta and then turn green upon successful boot up. Subsequent boots should be quick as training is done.
  • Operations/diagnostics mode: Holding volume up (volume up) and press the power button (Power ico) during boot prevents the modchip from going to sleep. This subsequently allows interactions with hwfly-toolbox for additional modchip operations and diagnostics.
  • Chip boot issue: When glitching is successful but an SD card issue prevent loading of payload.bin, diagnostics are provided on the screen. From this screen, OFW can be booted by pressing both volume buttons (volume down + volume up) simultaneously.
  • Chip bypass: Holding both volume buttons (volume down + volume up) during power-on bypasses any payloads and lets the console boot normally. Buttons must be held until glitching completes.

Troubleshooting

≣ I got the "Spacecraft-NX DFU not found!" message. (click to expand)
  • Windows is installing the drivers, give it some time and then try again.
≣ I got the "Failed to write! 6 and Failed to read! 6" message. (click to expand)
  • Try using a different micro usb cable, or a different pc.

LED Patterns
