How to upgrade your Switch firmware (offline)

Notes

• Compatible CFW: Before you upgrade your device's firmware, make sure you're on the latest CFW version. See the updating CFW page to find out more on how to update your CFW.
• Downgrading: Downgrading firmware should be avoided and usually only leads to issues rather than solve problems.
• Acquire FW files: If you want to dump your own firmware files in order to update your emuMMC, you may see this page for instructions.
• No card reader: You can access your SD card via Hekate, to update CFW files without removing the micro SD card from the Switch.
  See this page if you're unsure on how to do that.

You need

• Firmware Files
• Compatible Atmosphère version
• Daybreak (included with Atmosphère)

Prepare

Make sure which firmware version is supported by your Atmosphère version.

• If you've dumped your firmware from an updated sysMMC with TegraExplorer it will be in /tegraexplorer/Firmware/ on your micro SD card.
• Otherwise you first create a folder and place your firmware files (.nca) in your created folder.

Steps

1. Launch Daybreak from the homebrew menu
2. Select Install
3. Select the folder that contains your firmware (.nca) files
   • You'll find it in /tegraexplorer/Firmware/, if you dumped firmware from an updated sysMMC with TegraExplorer. (following this guide)
4. Select Continue
5. Select Perserve settings
6. Select Install (FAT32 + exFAT)
7. Select Continue to proceed
8. Once the upgrade/downgrade is done, you will need to reboot in order to finish the process.

Warmboot Troubleshooting

• If you get the following error after updating:
  [ERROR] Fatal error: [NXBOOT] Failed to determine mariko warmboot firmware
  Then boot sysMMC with a Hekate launch option once.
