How to backup & restore save files

Homebrew options on this page:

DBI

Transfer saves directly from your Switch to your PC with MTP. DBI's MTP responder makes it very easy to copy saves to your pc directly over USB. This MTP feature can also be used to dump and install games, updates and dlc just as easily.

You need

  1. On your Switch micro SD card, open the /switch/ folder.
  2. Create a folder for DBI if one does not exist.
  3. Copy your I nro to this folder.
  4. If you got the latest version, get translation_en.bin and rename it to translation.bin and copy that to the same folder.

Backup process - steps

  1. Connect your device to your PC.
  2. On your Switch, access the homebrew menu and launch DBI.
  3. Press X or scroll down and select Start MTP connection from the menu.
  4. Once your device is connected, on your PC access your device by clicking on the DBI drive.
  5. Access the 7: Saves folder.
  6. Backup all saves or only individual game saves:
    • Copy over to your PC the Ìnstalled games and Uninstalled games folders to backup all saves.
    • or open either folder and backup a users saves or individual saves from within the user folder.

Restoration process - steps

  1. Connect your device to your PC.
  2. On your Switch, access the homebrew menu and launch DBI.
  3. Press X or scroll down and select Start MTP connection from the menu.
  4. Once your device is connected, on your PC access your device by clicking on the DBI drive.
  5. Access the 7: Saves folder.
  6. Copy over to the 7: Saves folder the Installed games and Uninstalled games folders.

JKSV

You need

Backup process

  1. Launch JKSV from the homebrew menu
  2. Click X.
  3. Select Dump All For {User} from the menu.

Restoration process

  1. Launch JKSV.
  2. Select your desired profile.
  3. Select your desired title.
  4. Select your desired save state.
  5. Press Y and confirm restoration process by pressing A.

  1. Copy Checkpoint.nroto /switch/ on the micro SD card.
  2. Launch Checkpoint.
  3. Follow onscreen instructions or see the Checkpoint main GitHub page for more information.
