How to perform USB installations
This page gives you multiple ways you can use to install your dumped titles directly to the Switch over a USB connection.
- Homebrew menu: There are two methods you can use to access the homebrew menu
- Title override: Hold R while starting a working title in your home menu (recommended when installing, but usually not required).
- Applet mode: Pressing the album icon
- Dumping titles: You can find the dumping titles page with options and steps here.
- Verify: If you want to verify your dumped titles, please see this following guide page
- Supported files: NSP, NSZ, XCI & XCZ are supported by all the suggested installer homebrew.
Sphaira | MTP
You need
- Sphaira - Get Sphaira from this GitHub.
- If you are on MacOS, then please install OpenMTP to enable MTP functionality on your PC.
Install over MTP steps
- Connect your device to your PC.
- Launch Sphaira from the homebrew menu.
- Use title override for faster installs.
- Press Y Menu
- Select MTP Install
- If asked, "Installing is disabled, enable now?" select
Enable, twice. - On your PC access your device by opening the
Nintendo Switchdrive. - Open Games
- Select the folder of the game you want to dump and copy it to your PC.
- Open
Install (NSP, XCI, NSZ, XCZ) - Drag your desired title(s) into the folder.
DBI | MTP
Install your titles directly to your Switch over USB. Without any need for additional PC programs.
You need
- DBI - Get either (or multiple) of these DBI versions:
- DBI version 874 translated to English and more. Requires dumping devices keys to dump games with MTP and avoid the nag about the keys.
- DBI version 849 translated to English and more. The last version that does not require having dumped keys before you dump games with MTP.
- Latest translated* version, but translation *may not work. Requires both the patched DBI.nro and translation.bin
- If you are on macOS, then please install OpenMTP to enable MTP functionality on your PC.
- On your Switch micro SD card, open the
/switch/folder. - Create a folder for DBI if one does not exist.
- Copy your I nro to this folder.
- If you got the latest version, get
translation_en.binand rename it totranslation.binand copy that to the same folder.
Steps
- Connect your Switch to your PC.
- Launch DBI from the homebrew menu.
- Press X or scroll down and select
Start MTP connectionfrom the menu. - Once your device is connected, on your PC access your device by clicking on the
DBIdrive. - Access
5: SD Card install. - Drag your desired title(s) into the folder.
- Your installation should start now. You will be notified in DBI once it has finished.
- There may be some delay after a title is installed before the PC recognises it as successfully "copied" and starts the next file. If this happens, just let it do its thing for a minute.
Sphaira | NS-USBloader
Install your titles directly to your Switch over USB. With the Java program NS-USBloader and a compatible homebrew. This guide uses Sphaira, but it's also possible to use NS-USBloader with Awoo, TinWoo, Tinleaf and more.
You need
- Sphaira (or another installer compatible with NS-USBloader) - Get Sphaira from this GitHub.
- NS-USBloader - Get Installer-*.*.exe from the latest release on GitHub and run the installer.
- If you're not on Windows use the Java version
Steps
- Connect your device to your PC.
- Launch Sphaira from the homebrew menu.
- Use title override for faster installs
- Press Y Menu
- Select USB Install
- If asked, "Installing is disabled, enable now?" select
Enable, twice. - On your PC, start NS-USBloader
- Under the "game controller menu", make sure the top left drop-down boxes have
AwooandUSBselected. - Drag your desired title(s) into the loader or click on
Select filesand then select your desired file(s). - Click on
Upload to NS.
Tinfoil | MTP
Install your titles directly to your Switch over USB. Without any need for additional PC programs. (DBI seems to be the more stable option)
You need
- Tinfoil - Get Tinfoil self-installer from its website
- If you are on MacOS, then please install OpenMTP to enable MTP functionality on your PC.
Steps
- Press the album icon in order to access the homebrew menu.
- Launch
Tinfoil-Installer. - Exit out of the homebrew menu and select
Tinfoilon your home menu. - Once you launch into Tinfoil, scroll down to
Options. - In
Optionsmake sure that theEnable MTPoption is set toYESand that theEnable NUToption is set toNO. - Connect your device to your PC.
- Once your device is connected, on your PC access your device by clicking on the
Switchdrive. - Access the
Installfolder. - Drag your desired title(s) into the folder.
- Your installation should start now. Once it is done, you will see your desired title on your home screen.
Tinfoil | NUT
Install your titles directly to your Switch over USB, as long as you've named them correctly.
This option is generally not recommended compared to the previous ones, as it is more work without any benefit.
However, it may be the better option for network installs.
You need
- Tinfoil - Get Tinfoil self-installer from its website
- NUT - Get NUT from its GitHub page
- Tinfoil driver - Get Tinfoil Driver if the Switch is not connecting
Steps
- Extract
tinfoil.latest.zipto your SD card. - Run
tinfoil_driver.exe. - Create a folder named
nutanywhere on your PC, and placenut.exe in it. - Create a folder named
titlesin yournutfolder. - Run
nut.exe. - Once Nut launches, click on
Local Scan Paths. - Click on the
Browsetab and pick yourtitlesfolder that you created earlier. - Place your desired title in the
titlesfolder. - Click on the
Filestab and clickScan. - Once you see your desired title in NUT, plug your switch into your PC.
- On your Switch, access the homebrew menu and launch
Tinfoil-Installer.- You will only have to launch Tinfoil once via the homebrew menu. Later on you may launch Tinfoil via the home menu.
- Once in tinfoil, head over to the
New Gamestab, and you should see your desired title there. - Click A on the title to select it, and then click A again to install it.
- If you want to install all the titles that are displayed in the
New Gamestab, click X and then A.
- If you want to install all the titles that are displayed in the
