How to dump (backup) titles

There are many homebrew one can use to dump installed titles and gamecards. This page only covers dumping directly to a PC using DBI.

Notes

• Dump from sys: When you want to dump titles from your sysMMC, you'll need to start sysMMC with Atmosphère. If you need to create a launch option for this, see this guide page.
• Verify: If you want to verify your dumped titles, please see this following guide page
• Install dumped titles: See the install over USB page for options and steps.
• Homebrew menu: There are two methods you can use to access the homebrew menu
  • Title override: Hold R while starting a working title in your home menu (Use if you encounter an issue using applet mode).
  • Applet mode: Pressing the album icon
• macOS users: Have OpenMTP to enable MTP functionality on your PC. Get OpenMTP from their website or the Github and install it.

Sphaira | MTP

You need

• Sphaira - Get Sphaira from this GitHub.
• If you are on macOS, then please install OpenMTP to enable MTP functionality on your PC.

Enable MTP in Sphaira

1. Launch Sphaira from the homebrew menu.
2. Press Y Menu
3. Select Network
4. Then MTP and Enable

Dump over MTP steps

1. Connect your device to your PC.
2. Launch Sphaira from the homebrew menu.
3. On your PC access your device by opening the Nintendo Switch drive.
4. Open Games
5. Select the folder of the game you want to dump and copy it to your PC.

DBI | MTP

You need

• DBI - Get either (or multiple) of these DBI versions:
  • DBI version 874 translated to English and more. Requires dumping devices keys to dump games with MTP and avoid the nag about the keys.
  • DBI version 849 translated to English and more. The last version that does not require having dumped keys before you dump games with MTP.
  • Latest translated* version, but translation *may not work. Requires both the patched DBI.nro and translation.bin
• If you are on macOS, then please install OpenMTP to enable MTP functionality on your PC.

1. On your Switch micro SD card, open the /switch/ folder.
2. Create a folder for DBI if one does not exist.
3. Copy your I nro to this folder.
4. If you got the latest version, get translation_en.bin and rename it to translation.bin and copy that to the same folder.

Steps

1. Connect your Switch to your PC.
2. Launch DBI from the homebrew menu.
3. Press X or scroll down and select Start MTP connection from the menu.
4. Once your device is connected, on your PC access your device by clicking on the DBI drive.
5. Select one of the two methods below to dump your desired title.

Dumping game card titles

If you don't see 9: Gamecard enable it in DBI settings in DBI. Under MTP storages, set Gamecard to YES.

1. Access the 9: Gamecard folder.
2. Select Title[XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX] (trimmed).xci and copy it to a folder on your PC.

Dumping installed titles

1. Access the 4: Installed games folder.
2. Find the folder for your desired title and copy it over to your PC.
   • Note: Do not copy over the Title [B+U+DXXXXXX].nsp file. This will create a bad dump with base (game), update & DLC all in one file.
     You can disable showing this merged dumping option in DBI settings. Under MTP options, set Show combined NSP to NO.
   • For a clean dump, copy over the folder for your desired title!
3. Inside the folder you will find your desired dumped title + any other extra files (such as updates or DLC).
